CBNG has expanded into India with a new engineering presence in Bangalore to support development of its VectaStar NR fixed wireless platform.

The Cambridge-based wireless broadband supplier said the Bangalore team will focus on software and product development for VectaStar NR, its 5G Fixed Wireless Access platform. The new base will become part of its global engineering organisation and work with staff across its international operations.

Fixed Wireless Access is a growing segment of the telecoms market as operators look for ways to extend broadband coverage without the time and cost of wider fibre roll-outs. Suppliers are targeting demand from network operators serving homes, businesses and communities that are difficult or expensive to reach through traditional fixed-line infrastructure.

CBNG chose India in part for its engineering expertise in wireless networking and embedded systems. Bangalore, where the new activity is centred, is one of the country's main technology and telecoms hubs.

Engineering expansion

The India team will play a direct role in advancing the VectaStar NR portfolio and help reduce the time needed to introduce new software and product updates. The operation is also expected to grow over time as part of a broader effort to increase development resources across the business.

CBNG was founded in 2000 and supplies point-to-multipoint wireless networks to licensed spectrum service providers. Its systems have been deployed by more than 100 service providers globally, according to the company.

The expansion gives CBNG an engineering footprint in one of the world's largest telecoms labour markets at a time when vendors are under pressure to update broadband products quickly and tailor them to different operator requirements. For smaller and mid-sized infrastructure suppliers, access to specialist software and telecoms engineering talent has become a significant competitive factor.

The Bangalore operation is intended to strengthen development resources as demand shifts in the Fixed Wireless Access market. Operators are increasingly looking for systems that can support wider network coverage and adapt to different deployment environments, from dense urban areas to underserved rural locations.

Nedko Ivanov, Chief Executive Officer of CBNG, said: "India is a natural choice for strengthening our global engineering capability. The depth of expertise in software and telecommunications will play a key role in helping us bring new wireless broadband capabilities to market more quickly. As we build the team over time, it will become an integral part of our engineering organisation, supporting ongoing product development and innovation across the VectaStar NR platform."

Market focus

CBNG's VectaStar NR platform serves a part of the telecoms equipment market that delivers fixed broadband over wireless links rather than through full fibre or copper lines. The technology is often used where operators want to speed up deployment, avoid civil engineering work, or improve economics in areas with lower population density.

Industry interest in this model has increased as operators try to expand broadband access while controlling capital spending. That has created a commercial opening for vendors that can supply equipment and software suited to regional deployment needs and changing spectrum conditions.

By adding engineers in Bangalore, CBNG is seeking to deepen its product development bench while keeping its base in Cambridge. The India operation will work closely with existing teams rather than function as a separate unit.

The expansion also highlights how UK telecoms technology companies are looking overseas for engineering talent as software becomes more central to network products. In areas such as wireless access, product cycles increasingly depend on software and feature-set updates as much as on hardware design.
