Console Connect unveils secure IoT solution Edge SIM at MWC
Thu, 7th Mar 2024

A new step for secure Internet-of-Things (IoT) and cloud connectivity was demonstrated by Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform Console Connect at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The company showcased the world's first mobile connectivity solution that bypasses the public internet - Edge SIM.

Edge SIM leverages developments in Software-Defined Networking (SDN) to bypass the public internet and route traffic via a secure private network. This is one of the only fully multi-cloud-enabled solutions, enabling businesses to self-provision direct connections between devices and over ten globally-leading cloud platforms.

The IoT and networks face the increasingly complex challenge of managing sensitive and mission-critical data. Edge SIM aims to meet this challenge by offering more dependable access to the cloud. Combining far-reaching coverage of mobile networks with the superior security and performance of Console Connect makes Edge SIM an excellent choice for critical IoT applications across several sectors, including asset management, logistics, healthcare, live broadcasting, and security systems among others.

Emmanuel Bain, SVP of Mobility at Console Connect, commented on the innovative product during the MWC demonstration: "With coverage across over 180 countries worldwide, Edge SIM provides greater visibility, security and control over global IoT assets and gives businesses a direct path between their connected devices and the cloud."

In 2023, Console Connect forged a strategic partnership with Vultr where now the NaaS platform possesses considerable reach to Vultr's eight cloud data centres worldwide. Businesses can effortlessly integrate their connected devices with any of these Vultr cloud locations, providing access to Vultr's cloud compute, Cloud GPU, Bare Metal, and cloud storage solutions.

Citing the importance of this integration, Kevin Cochrane, CMO of Vultr, said: "Our customers have long relied on Console Connect to deliver unrivaled performance across our cloud data centre locations. Today, we are thrilled to add global connectivity support for private 5G connections by integrating Edge SIM into the Vultr platform."

Edge SIM ensures mobile traffic remains secure from the public internet. The traffic bypasses the public internet and is transferred from a mobile gateway directly to a virtual private Layer 3 network. Businesses can manage this network in real-time through the Console Connect management portal. Additionally, Edge SIM offers direct connections to popular cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and others. Furthermore, it allows enterprises to manage both mobile and cloud connectivity payments via the Console Connect platform making Edge SIM an extension of Console Connect's CloudRouter solution. The integration of a Console Connect Access Port enables businesses to dynamically link their devices to various network environments.
