Jio unveils new plans with unlimited 5G data & apps
Jio has introduced a new range of unlimited plans aimed at enhancing the digital experience for its users across India. The company's announcement in Mumbai highlights Jio's commitment to providing high-quality service at globally competitive prices. The new plans will be available from 3 July 2024.
Jio's True 5G network, described as the fastest-ever 5G rollout of this scale worldwide, continues to be a key aspect of the company's offering. Almost 85% of the total 5G cells operational in India are managed by Jio. The company's Stand-Alone True 5G network provides truly unlimited 5G data on its plans at no additional cost.
Addressing the digital divide, Jio has maintained its tariff structure for the JioBharat and JioPhone devices, ensuring that the approximately 250 million feature phone users in India can access digital services. These users have been largely stuck in the 2G era until now.
Commenting on the new plans, Akash M Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, stated, "The introduction of new plans is a step in the direction of furthering industry innovation and driving sustainable growth through investments in 5G and AI technology. Ubiquitous, high-quality, affordable internet is the backbone of Digital India and Jio takes pride in contributing to this. Jio will always put our country and customer first and will continue to invest for India."
The tariff table indicates that all plans offering 2GB per day or more will now include unlimited 5G data. Starting on the effective date, users will be able to access these plans through all existing touchpoints and channels.
Additionally, Jio Platforms is set to launch two new applications. The first, JioSafe, is a quantum-secure communication app that supports calling, messaging, file transfer and more, priced at INR ₹199 per month. The second, JioTranslate, is an AI-powered multi-lingual communication app for translating voice calls, voice messages, text, and images, priced at INR ₹99 per month. For a limited period, existing Jio users will have access to both applications free of charge for a year.
These initiatives underline Jio's strategy of leveraging advanced technology to deliver value-added services to its user base. As the company continues to expand its 5G network and develop innovative solutions, it maintains its focus on making digital services accessible to all segments of the Indian population.
Jio was established in 2007 under Reliance Industries. It entered the Indian telecom market with its 4G services in 2016, significantly disrupting the industry with competitive pricing and expansive network coverage. Jio quickly became one of the largest telecom operators in India by subscriber base, challenging incumbents with its disruptive business model. Beyond telecom, Jio diversified into digital services such as broadband internet (Jio Fiber), e-commerce (JioMart), and digital content platforms (Jio Platforms), further cementing its influence in India's digital economy.
