Sify upgrades network to 600G using Ciena technology
Sify Technologies has announced that it will deploy Ciena's optical technology to connect its seven Metro Area Networks across India and upgrade its National Long-Distance network to support services up to 600G.
The network enhancement begins with an express connection between Mumbai and New Delhi, facilitating increased capacity across Sify's strategic data centre hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida. This scalable network aims to support the anticipated demands from artificial intelligence workloads and digital enterprises nationwide.
Sify Technologies is a prominent integrated ICT solutions provider in India. It delivers many services, including network services, data centre solutions, cloud offerings, and enterprise applications. Committed to driving digital transformation, Sify focuses on empowering businesses with innovative solutions that enhance connectivity, operational efficiency, and overall performance, enabling enterprises to thrive in an increasingly digital landscape.
Harsha Ram, Head of Network Business at Sify, commented, "India is embracing digitisation with bandwidth demand skyrocketing from global cloud providers and digital enterprises. Using Ciena's optical technology, we've doubled our network capacity to 600G. This will be offered via Ciena's line system, which can support both C and L-band transponders. Our customers will now have access to ultra-low latency connectivity and unparalleled support to Gen AI, cloud services and applications."
The deployment utilises Ciena's 6500 Reconfigurable Line System and Waveserver 5, which are driven by WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics. This configuration is augmented by strategic consulting services provided by Ciena Services, ensuring an optimised implementation, whilst Ciena's Maintenance Service offers end-to-end support.
Sify also uses Ciena's Navigator Network Control Suite for real-time software control and network visibility. Notably, Sify is leveraging components of Navigator Intelligent Apps, including PlannerPlus, to build and augment its optical network efficiently.
Amit Malik, Vice President of Ciena India, stated, "Ciena has been working closely with Sify to create an adaptive network that can deliver transformative business connectivity to enterprises and cloud providers across India. Leveraging Ciena's optical prowess, Sify can scale as required to deliver more capacity for any distance application, supporting its customers' digital ambitions."
The expansion of Sify's network capacity from 300G to 600G aims to support existing bandwidth demands and future-proofing for upcoming AI workloads. This upgrade positions Sify to provide its clients with enhanced connectivity and service capabilities, aligning with India's growing digital demand.
