TREND Networks announces updates LanTEK IV-S software
In an attempt to boost speed and efficiency for installers, technicians, and project managers, TREND Networks has announced an update for its LanTEK IV-S copper and fibre cable certifier software. The Version 4.1 software is designed to assist users in carrying out their work faster, adhering to the latest standards, and leveraging the most up-to-date functionalities. It also integrates support for a new fibre optic video microscope accessory for inspection and troubleshooting.
As explained by Dan Barrera, Director of Product Innovation for TREND Networks, "in the current market conditions, time remains a critical issue for professionals in the field. Although LanTEK IV-S already claims the title as the fastest cloud-enabled certifier available, this update aims to further enhance speed and save time, without compromising accuracy."
The updated software, once installed, allows for automatic future software updates for LanTEK IV and LanTEK IV-S via Wi-Fi. The user, after synchronising the cable certifier to the TREND AnyWARE Cloud, receives an onscreen notification about the availability of an update, which can then be simply tapped to install. "We've found that 44% of LanTEK IV-S users aren't using the most recent operating software version, meaning they are missing out on vital speed enhancements and recent standards. The over-the-air updates will ensure faster, more convenient software updates that don't rely on a PC, assisting technicians to work at their optimal level," added Dan Barrera.
Some key features of the updated software include support for TREND Networks' fibre optic video microscope, a digital probe that delivers high-quality images of fibre optic end faces to aid in effective inspection and troubleshooting. Barrera highlighted that "dirty connections are the number one cause of test failures and network connectivity issues. After speaking to real-world installers, we found many were just winging these inspections because they didn't have the right tools or time to check them."
To address these challenges, the company has utilised advanced machine vision similar to defect detection systems in manufacturing. To certify a connector, technicians just need to choose multimode or single mode and press a button. The version 4.1 software identifies the fibre core and automatically tracks it on a screen, analysing the image as soon as it is in focus and automatically identifying scratches, dirt, and other defects. Results are saved to the certifier's internal memory and can be exported to a USB drive if necessary.
Also included in the update is the recently ratified TIA-568.3-E fibre optic standard, ensuring compliance and performance. Another important addition are new copper test standards which now require a +PoE variant in addition to the existing MAX variant to certify that a cable will support high power PoE applications. The LanTEK IV and IV-S have always measured DCRU as part of the seven-second autotest, meaning testing for PoE compliance does not add any extra testing time.
Finally, Version 4.1 presents additional cable manufacturers in the cable database. The free software update is available for download now, and the LanTEK IV-S cable certifier and new fibre optic video microscope are both available from TREND Networks distributors.
