Jio & SpaceX partner to launch Starlink in India
Jio Platforms Limited has agreed with SpaceX to offer Starlink's broadband internet services to its customers in India.
This agreement, contingent upon SpaceX receiving the necessary authorisations to market Starlink in India, aims to integrate Starlink into Jio's service offerings. Jio intends to make Starlink's equipment available at its retail outlets and online.
Combining Jio's significant data traffic capacity as the largest global mobile operator and Starlink's extensive low Earth orbit satellite network, this collaboration seeks to deliver reliable broadband services across India, including its most remote areas.
Jio plans to distribute Starlink equipment through its retail channels and establish customer service support for installation and activation.
The arrangement with SpaceX is part of Jio's broader strategy to ensure reliable internet access to enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses, and communities across India. Starlink will complement Jio's existing services by providing high-speed internet to difficult-to-reach locales quickly and affordably.
Beyond internet services, Jio and SpaceX are exploring other possibilities for cooperation to enhance India's digital landscape through their combined infrastructure.
Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, stated, "Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio's top priority. Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all."
"By integrating Starlink into Jio's broadband ecosystem, we are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country."
Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, remarked, "We applaud Jio's commitment to advancing India's connectivity. We are looking forward to working with Jio and receiving authorisation from the Government of India to provide more people, organisations and businesses with access to Starlink's high-speed internet services."
Jio Platforms Limited aims to transform the Indian digital services sector, enabling Digital India's vision to meet the needs of over 1.4 billion Indians. The collaboration with Starlink marks a significant milestone in expanding India's digital infrastructure.
