Nexcom unveils NDiS B340 edge PC with PCIe expansion
Nexcom has launched the NDiS B340, a compact edge computing system featuring an optional dockable PCIe expansion module for installations requiring additional add-in cards.
The company has positioned the device as a base unit with a fixed suite of display, networking, and industrial I/O. For users needing more flexibility, expansion is available via an optional module named DockInfinity-E4X1. Nexcom stated that this module allows users to add a half-length PCIe x4 slot to the system.
The NDiS B340 targets deployments where buyers balance price, power draw and physical footprint against the need for higher I/O density or specialist functions. Nexcom cited use cases that include smart retail, digital signage, industrial control, transportation and edge gateway roles.
Processor options
Nexcom said the NDiS B340 supports multiple Intel low-power processor lines. The company listed the Amston Lake X series, Intel N97 from the Alder Lake-N family, and the Intel Processor N150 from the Twin Lake family.
Those options allow customers to choose different performance levels within the same product line. Nexcom said the approach reduces the need for extensive redesign or replacement of the base hardware when requirements change.
The system uses a fanless metal chassis. Nexcom said it suits 24/7 operation and sites with limited space. The company also described the design as intended for harsh environments.
Display and networking
The base system includes dual HDMI 2.0 outputs. Nexcom said the outputs can drive displays up to 4K at 60Hz and suit multi-display configurations.
The system also includes dual 2.5GbE LAN ports using Intel i226-V controllers, according to the specification list. Nexcom positioned the ports as a way to connect to high-speed wired networks at the edge.
For peripherals, the NDiS B340 includes six USB 2.0 ports. The system also has two COM ports with RS232, RS422 and RS485 support.
Nexcom also listed 6-in and 6-out GPIO. The company said the I/O options suit integrations that involve sensors and legacy equipment.
Wireless modules
Nexcom has stated that the platform supports optional M.2 modules, with the company listing 5G or LTE, Wi-Fi, and SSD options.
According to the specifications, these M.2 options can be utilised simultaneously. However, Nexcom did not specify the exact M.2 key types or the total number of slots available in the official announcement.
PCIe expansion
The main hardware differentiator in the launch is the DockInfinity-E4X1 expansion module. Nexcom said the module docks with the base NDiS B340 and adds a half-length PCIe x4 slot.
Nexcom has detailed several example add-in categories for the system, including Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications, capture cards, and custom modules.
The hardware features a 12V to 24V DC input range and includes support for wall-mounting. Additionally, Nexcom confirmed the system is equipped with TPM 2.0 for enhanced security and watchdog support to ensure system reliability.
Trade show plans
Nexcom said it will show the NDiS B340 series and the DockInfinity-E4X1 add-on unit at Embedded World in Nuremberg. The company said it will exhibit in Hall 3, Booth 3-341.
Nexcom described itself as being founded in 1992 and headquartered in Taiwan. The company said it works across edge computing and industrial IoT product lines, including SD-Edge computing and manufacturing operations management platforms.
