Synology unveils cloud surveillance service with easy deployment

Today

Synology has introduced C2 Surveillance, a new Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) solution aimed at providing cloud monitoring capabilities with multi-site scalability.

C2 Surveillance is designed to deliver a server-less and fast-to-deploy surveillance option, removing the need for on-site servers and specialised deployment procedures. With this solution, Synology is targeting organisations seeking a non-disruptive method for monitoring across multiple locations.

"Our goal has always been to build a comprehensive surveillance ecosystem that enables seamless integration and management for our customers," said Josh Lin, Director of Synology's Surveillance Group. "With the addition of C2 Surveillance, customers now have the flexibility to deploy their surveillance solutions entirely on-premises or in the cloud, depending on their unique requirements."

One of the key features of C2 Surveillance is its streamlined setup, which Synology says can be completed in minutes, including from mobile devices. The intuitive installation process allows administrators to bring new sites online without the need for specialist training. The system is designed to be accessible for businesses of varying sizes and technical proficiency.

The solution incorporates advanced AI-powered detection tasks that can be configured easily via the Synology interface. This approach ensures both accessibility and sophisticated surveillance functionality, available to users through a few simple steps.

C2 Surveillance is built with what Synology refers to as a "continuity-first architecture." This ensures uninterrupted recording by allowing footage to be edge recorded to microSD cards within surveillance cameras. Users also have the option to back up recordings to the C2 Cloud, adding a layer of data protection. The system includes a failover offline mode, enabling users to continue local monitoring even if the site becomes disconnected from the internet.

Security and compliance are prioritised in C2 Surveillance, which includes AES-128 encryption for protecting footage and access data. Additional safeguards such as multi-factor authentication and granular permission settings are provided. The system also aligns with recognised industry compliance standards, including ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

For organisations with operations across multiple locations, C2 Surveillance offers scalable management through centralised cloud infrastructure. This functionality allows cameras from various sites to be centrally managed, supporting efficient operation even for organisations with dispersed facilities.

Integration with Windows Active Directory enables centralised identity and access management, while role-based access control lets administrators delegate specific permissions to teams or individual locations. This approach is intended to streamline oversight and reduce administrative complexity in multi-site deployments.

The system also offers a low bandwidth mode, which can cut bandwidth use by up to 50% without significantly affecting video quality. This feature is aimed at deployment in environments where bandwidth resources are limited, supporting efficient operation under infrastructure constraints.

C2 Surveillance does not require device licences, allowing users to add cameras without concern for additional licensing costs or limitations. Synology highlights this as a distinguishing factor in enabling cost predictability and deployment flexibility for organisations.

C2 Surveillance will be available later in the year, with Synology planning to provide further details on availability ahead of launch.
