TP-Link has unveiled its first Wi-Fi 8 lineup at IFA 2026 in Berlin, led by the Archer 8 Ultra router and Deco 8 Ultra mesh system.

Australian pre-orders for the Archer 8 Ultra will open on 30 September, with fuller details of the range to be disclosed during a global online launch the same day.

The announcement marks TP-Link's move into products built around the forthcoming IEEE 802.11bn standard, known as Wi-Fi 8. Rather than focusing on headline speed gains, the lineup is being positioned as a response to reliability issues users notice in daily use, including weak coverage, network congestion and interference.

At the centre of the launch is StabilityEngine, a set of features included in the Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra. TP-Link says it is designed to improve coverage at the edges of the home, keep networks responsive when many devices are connected and maintain steadier throughput in noisy wireless environments.

The hardware uses Wi-Fi 8 chipsets from Broadcom, Qualcomm and MediaTek, combined with TP-Link's own hardware and software engineering.

Initial devices

The first router in the lineup, the Archer 8 Ultra BN19000, is a tri-band model with aggregate wireless speeds of up to 19 Gbps and 10 Gbps wired connectivity. It includes 18 internal antennas intended to provide coverage across the home.

The mesh offering, the Deco 8 Ultra BN22000, is also tri-band and rated for aggregate wireless speeds of up to 22 Gbps, alongside 10 Gbps wired connectivity. TP-Link says a three-pack can cover up to 910 square metres and support more than 200 connected devices.

The launch also offers an early look at TP-Link's broader Wi-Fi 8 plans beyond its flagship home networking products. The lineup is expected to expand into additional mesh systems, travel routers, range extenders and adapters, although specifications and availability will vary by market.

Reliability focus

TP-Link's pitch reflects a wider shift in consumer networking, as vendors try to show practical benefits from new wireless standards rather than relying only on peak speed claims. In homes with growing numbers of connected devices, dead spots, contested bandwidth and signal disruption often affect the user experience more than maximum theoretical throughput.

The approach includes Enhanced Long Range and Distributed Resource Units to improve reach and uplink performance for distant or low-power devices. TP-Link also cites Non-Primary Channel Access as a tool for handling busy networks, and Unequal Modulation and new Modulation and Coding Schemes as ways to sustain throughput under interference.

Design is also part of the product strategy. TP-Link argues that traditional routers are often hidden from view because of their appearance, which can reduce performance if they are placed in less suitable positions around the home.

Gary Chang, who leads industrial design at TP-Link's Irvine headquarters, said the company had tried to address that through the appearance of the new devices.

"We stopped building a piece of networking equipment and started designing for the home," said Gary Chang, who leads Industrial Design at TP-Link.

"When a router's design becomes something people want to display, it ends up exactly where it performs best," Chang said.

The Archer 8 Ultra has a minimalist design with a dual-tone grille and a status light instead of conventional indicator LEDs, while the Deco 8 Ultra uses a compact form with a matte body and glossy top. Both products were designed in California.

TP-Link sells networking and smart home products in more than 170 countries. With Wi-Fi 8 still an emerging standard, the early launch positions the company among the first consumer networking brands to outline a full product family built around the next generation of wireless technology.

Australian buyers will get first access through pre-orders for the Archer 8 Ultra at major retailers on 30 September.
