Tata Communications names Siddhartha Mundra as CFO
Tata Communications has appointed Siddhartha Mundra as Chief Financial Officer, with a staged transition that begins with a CFO-designate role before he takes over fully.
Mundra will join as Chief Financial Officer-Designate on February 23, 2026, and assume the Chief Financial Officer role on May 1, 2026.
He will move from Tata Sons, where he has been Vice President in the Group CFO & Group Strategy Office since December 2020.
The appointment brings a finance and strategy executive with experience in corporate finance, business operations, private equity, and technology into a key leadership role at Tata Communications, which provides communications and digital infrastructure services within the Tata group.
Board Process
The board approved the appointment at a meeting on February 10, 2026, following recommendations from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the Audit Committee.
The committee process reflects the CFO role's importance for financial controls, reporting, capital allocation, and investor communications, and points to a structured succession plan ahead of the second-quarter 2026 handover.
Mundra brings more than 22 years of experience across sectors and functions, including senior leadership roles at large Indian conglomerates and at a listed company.
Career Background
Before joining Tata Sons, Mundra was Chief Executive Officer of Shankara Building Products. He previously served as a Director at Fairwinds Private Equity and as an Associate Vice President at ICICI Venture.
He began his career as a software engineer with Cisco Systems in Bengaluru. His combination of technical experience and later finance and investment roles has given him exposure to both product-led businesses and capital markets-driven decision-making.
In his current role at Tata Sons, Mundra has worked on group-level finance and strategy, typically covering portfolio planning, capital deployment, and performance oversight across operating companies.
He holds a PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad and a B.Tech in Computer Science from NIT Warangal, where he graduated with a Gold Medal.
Leadership Focus
Managing Director and CEO A.S. Lakshminarayanan linked the appointment to the company's broader leadership agenda.
"Siddhartha's extensive expertise and experience combined with his strong leadership record, makes him a tremendous addition to Tata Communications leadership as we continue to drive transformation and create long‐term value for all our stakeholders," Lakshminarayanan said.
The appointment comes as telecoms and communications service providers navigate a shifting market, including network investment cycles, expansion of cloud and security offerings, and demand for more resilient connectivity. Financial leadership has become more critical as companies balance investment needs with returns and as investors scrutinise cash generation and leverage.
The phased handover suggests Tata Communications is aiming for continuity across budgeting, reporting cycles, and strategic planning, while giving the incoming CFO time to align with the executive team.
Mundra said he expects to work closely with the leadership after joining.
"I am honored to join Tata Communications and look forward to working with the leadership to accelerate our strategic ambitions, further strengthen our financial foundation and contribute to the Company's continued growth," Mundra said.
